Two months after Spain High Court judge Carmen Lamela refused to release pro-independence leader Oriol Junqueras on bail, a panel of judges on Spain’s supreme court unanimously upheld her ruling.
Other indicted ex-regional ministers and top pro-independence officials were allowed to avoid pre-trial detention in early November so they could campaign in an election held on December 21.
Junqueras is the leader of the Republican Left of Catalonia, a necessary party to form a pro-secession government in Barcelona. He currently faces charges of abuse of office, contempt of court, misappropriation of public funds, rebellion, and sedition.
